Department of Interface Physics

Welcome

Topic of research in the department Grenzflächenphysik (physics of interfaces) is the study of interactions between molecules and interfaces. Special attention is given to porous materials like zeolites. Experiments were performed mainly with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and optical spectroscopy. The pulse field gradient technique (PFG NMR) for the study of self diffusion and molecular transport in porous materials has been strongly developed in the department. Other experimental methods, which were established in the department for the investigation of structure, mobility and reactivity of molecules or adsorption sites, concern high-temperature MAS NMR in a wide temperature range up to 800 K, solid-state NMR of quadrupole nuclei, infrared spectroscopy, interference microscopy. Theoretical problems of adsorption and diffusion are dealt with both in our department and in co-operation with the department Moleküldynamik / Computersimulation.

Chair: NN
Vice-Chair: Dr. habil. Frank Stallmach
